The ultimate OneCard guide

BY CARLINGTON SAMUELS

As we all know, being a student is only getting more expensive. Here’s to making sure every penny counts by maxing out your student discounts using your OneCard. All students enrolled for the current school semester are entitled to a Campus Card. This is your official Sheridan ID card, and you are issued just one active card.

One of my favourite words is “discount”.  This is because one can subtract a percentage of the price of the product they’re eyeing, making it cheaper, and making them happier.  There are some stores that take advantage of the fact that there are students in the area, and thus provides us with some decent discounts and just having your OneCard handy can help you splash into the savings.

“Many businesses, stores and restaurants offer a discounted student rate with proof of enrolment,” notes former Sheridan Student Union member Bob Nicks, “which can turn into big savings from just your OneCard.

One of the biggest discounts the OneCard offers is access to the GO trains and Transit. The card will have to be presented to a GO representative and the Presto sticker at the back of the OneCard will help students get the discount.

Queensbury Dental Centre in Oakville is also offering a limited offering of a free cleaning for any Sheridan students with a valid OneCard.

Various restaurants in Oakville as well as Mississauga have taken on the responsibility to give students a certain discount with the use of their OneCard. These restaurants include All Star Wings and Ribs in Mississauga and The Habanero Taqueria, Monaghan’s Sports Pub and Grill, Turtle Jack’s and B. Good in Oakville.

“We are currently working with a lot more vendors/service providers to provision the use of your Sheridan onecard for payment. Stay tuned on Facebook and follow the OneCard page for further details – we will make updates as new services are rolled out and ready to go.” said Alise Murray, a student who works as a clerk with the OneCard department part time.

The discounts students can receive off campus are limited for now, but going forward there are plenty of reasons to get excited about the various discounts students can receive, Just remember to bring your student card to these places to avoid any complications and happy savings.
