Sheridan is partnering with the Oakville Festivals of Film & Art for the online screening of Code 8. The film has become one of the most popular movies on Netflix this year.

The new sci-fi thriller features the contribution of 13 Sheridan alumni. Many of them will be attending a live Q&A via Zoom after the screening.

Date: December 9, 2020

Time: 7 p.m. (screening), live Q&A afterwards

Cost: $8.99 per ticket

Notably, the Producer and Associate Producer of the film, Darcy Smith and Priscilla Galvez are both graduates of Sheridan’s Advanced Television and Film program. They graduated in 2014.

The film, Code 8, portrays a world set during the Second Industrial Revolution, where people with “special” abilities live in poverty. Their powers are suppressed and they are forced to register their powers with the government.

The main character, Conner Reed (played by Robbie Amell) uses his special abilities to earn money by stepping into a lucrative criminal world, led by Garrett (played by Stephen Amell).

This exclusive screening and Q&A is the second, and final part of the OFFA/Sheridan’s Fall Screening Series. The first screening was on November 25, featuring A Perfect Plan, another film that features the work of Sheridan alumni, including Jesse Ikeman (Director), Christopher Giroux (Producer) and Stephanie Gorin (Casting).

“Working in my own community with some of my former classmates has been an incredibly rewarding experience. We’ve been collaborating and learning from one another since being in the classroom at Sheridan.”

Priscilla Galvez, Associate Producer of Code 8

Priscilla Galvez, the Associate Producer of the film, is a Filipino-Canadian who has produced television series, short documentaries and feature films. Many of which have been screened at international film festivals.

Her most recent work is on a film titled Sing Me a Lullaby, which was premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) in September 2020.

She joins a multitude of Sheridan alumni who continue to make notable contributions to some of the most popular films in the industry.
