With the 2017 Special Olympics Ontario, Provincial Summer Games slowly approaching, Polar Plunge for Special Olympics makes its way across Ontario.
The Polar Plunge is an annual fundraising event hosted by the Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR). After paying the registration fee plungers line up to jump into an icy cold body of water.
The LETR partners with local law enforcement to host the Polar Plunge in order to, “raise funds and awareness for Special Olympics Ontario,” says Cody Jansma, manager of the LETR.
“The LETR is the official ‘Charity of Choice’ of the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police,” says Jansma. “The LETR is the one common program that all law enforcement rally around provincially, each and every year.”
This year the Peel Regional Police (PRP) will be hosting the provincial games and for this reason they have decided to host a second plunge at Sheridan College’s Davis Campus on March 23 in hopes to raise more money.
With the Police Foundation program being at Davis it is the perfect fit for this event. “Many PRP Officers teach in the foundations program and we would like to engage those Police Foundations students,” says Jansma.
