Award season continued on May 27 with The iHeartRadio Music Awards. The award show, which was canceled last year due to the pandemic, was back.
The ceremony took place live at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, with host Usher and a brand new category which screams 2021: “Tik Tok Bop of the Year”, where fans have the opportunity to vote.
The Weeknd was one of last night’s big winners. With eight nominations, he ended up taking three awards home, including ‘Song of the Year’ and ‘Male Artist of the Year’. The Weeknd finished the evening tied for most wins on the night with BTS.
This comes after his iconic win at the Billboard Music Awards (BBMA), this past weekend. He took home 10 trophies, which is the most any artist has won in Billboard history.
The past few weeks have been great validation for The Weeknd after his Grammy snub earlier this year.
Both fans and the artist himself were outraged when “After Hours” did not get nominated for a Grammy. The Weeknd reacted on Twitter when the nominations came out in November of last year:
The Grammys remain corrupt. You owe me, my fans and the industry transparency…

Collaboratively planning a performance for weeks to not being invited? In my opinion zero nominations = you’re not invited!

The Weeknd has had tremendous success despite the Grammy snub, from performing at the Super Bowl earlier this year to racking up a tremendous amount of awards.
He even performed ‘Save Your Tears (Remix)’ with newlywed Ariana Grande last night at the iHeartRadio awards, for the first time ever. The performance was the most talked about and was even trending online.
The Weeknd has now hinted that the “After Hours” era is coming to an end. Which begs the question, what is he planning next? We’ll have to wait and see.
