If a student is graduating this year and looking to buy tickets to Convocation or a class ring, then the Graduation Fair is the event for them.
to 5 p.m. It offers student the opportunity to try on gowns so they can be sized and sponsors including TD Bank and Canada Life will be on hand.
The Alumni Office contacts students after they graduate.
Many students may be unaware of the process of applying to graduate. It is done through the “My OTR” section of Access Sheridan and clicking on the “Apply to Graduate” link.
Alumni coordinator Allisha Seguire said that this is the first year the alumni office is hosting the Graduation Fair as a runup to Convocation, which is held in June at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga. She also described the benefits her department offers to grads.
“We have affiliate partners, so you can get discounted home and auto insurance from TD. Another partner is MBNA, so you can get a Mastercard. We offer Canada Life, so students can get health and dental insurance. So those are our three big benefits,” said Seguire.
The office also plans many events for alumni.
“We do reunions, so people can come back and meet with their faculty. We do mentoring events for our students. We bring alumni back on campus to speak to current students. We do career development events for our young alumni who are just graduating. So we do resume building workshops in partnership with the Career Centre. As an alumnus, they still have access to the Career Centre, which a lot of them don’t know about. So they can book an appointment and go over their resumes, interview questions, career paths. So those are our major ones.”
One of the benefits of attending the Graduation Fair is having a professional photo taken for a LinkedIn account, which helps with job searches.
The grad fair will also feature free food and visits from many partners of the Alumni Office, as well as the Alumni Services.
