The government of Ontario is sending an extra nine firefighters to Australia to help battle the bushfires raging in several parts of the country.
Canada has already deployed around 100 firefighters and management staff to Australia since September, 19 of them from Ontario.
The firefighters’ deployment is part of a reciprocal agreement where countries and jurisdictions around the world send each other firefighting staff during times of high wildfire activity.
Australia is facing one of the worst bushfires on record. So far, the fires have destroyed more than 2,500 homes and over eight million hectares of land.
