Drone for missing person cases: Halton Police successfully used a drone to find a person in crisis last Sunday in Oakville. Police noticed around 6 pm that night that a person had gone missing near Dundas Street West. Due to the woody landscapes in the areas, police opted to use their remote aircraft system to assist them. The person was found around 9 pm and then safely transported to a hospital where no serious injuries have been spotted.
January cars are stolen: According to Toronto authorities, 844 vehicles were stolen in January alone. This may seem like a lot, but compared to last year the decrease is about thirteen percent. Citizens are asking for better security on new cars and that it’s not just left up to the customer to pay for a backup system. If you witness a break-in, then the police are informing you to call them as soon as possible.
The Kenneth Law Trial: Kenneth Law has been charged with 14 counts of first-degree murder. Law ran several websites that were used to sell items used for self-harm and ship them to several countries. Law was seen on video at court where prosecutors confirmed the attorney general had decided to make a charge by sending the case directly to trial in the Supreme Court. The law will make an appearance in court on Thursday.
TikTok Literacy: Teachers are going viral on TikTok for talking about how poorly behaved students are. Since these videos went viral there have been many teachers saying that today’s generation of kids are significantly different in the learning field. There have been videos of teachers breaking out about how rude Gen Alpha kids are. These systematic issues can have students falling behind and potentially having to retake a year.
Leafs into the all-star break: This past Saturday Toronto Maple Leafs have won home-and-home series against the Winnipeg Jets. In the first game, the Maple Leafs won 1 to 0 and then 4 to 2. Auston Matthews is credited with his hard work for scoring his 40th goal of the season. His most goals in one season is 60 in the 21-22 season. We will have to see if he comes close to beating his previous record.
Gretzky rookie cards: Today, a Saskatchewan family is going viral for discovering they had a large case of 1979 O-Pee-Chee hockey cards that could contain around twenty-five Wayne Gretzky’s rookie cards. The unopened case has been put up for auction and sports fans can bid on these rare collectibles. The case also includes thousands of unopened 1979 brand cards.
World Junior Sexual Assault: The five former Canada World Hockey Juniors are facing sexual assault charges following an alleged assault that took place in 2018 after a Hockey Canada ceremony celebrating the player’s victory at the World Juniors Tournament. The five players that are being charged include Carter Hart, Michael McLeod, Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, and Alex Formenton. However, McLeod is facing an additional charge for “being a party to the offense.” The case will head to London courts starting Monday.
