Staying fit is an important part of maintaining one’s health and mind. Fortunately for Sheridan students, the college offers a well-equipped Athletic Centre located off the southwest corner of the Trafalgar Campus.
Open 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. on weekdays and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, students enjoy free access with their One Cards. So, there’s no reason to not make use of it.
Still unsure? Here’s a quick review of Sheridan College’s weight room located in on the second floor of the Athletic Centre
The weight room is composed of two main areas, which are divided by equipment type. One space houses mostly cardio equipment, while the second connected room offers weight equipment.
Within the rooms, students can access a wide variety of exercise equipment including treadmills, ellipticals, exercise bikes, rowers, a stair stepper and exercise balls. There are also pull-up bars, squat racks, sets of dumbbells, barbells with adjustable weight plates, cable machines, lat pulldown machines, chest press machines, rowers, leg press, leg curls and leg extensions.

Almost all of the equipment is adjustable and customizable with adjustable speeds and weights to fit the needs of each student’s ideal workout.
“I come like once or twice a week depending on how I’m feeling after class,” said Ethan, a Sheridan student and frequent gym-goer. “I mostly use the weights. You can do cardio like running wherever but like you need real equipment for weights.”
When asked for tips on getting started, Santiago, a gym staffer offered some ideas.
“It really depends on what you are aiming to get out of your workout.” he said. “You should try to do some research beforehand on what you want to accomplish.”
When asked what they felt could be improved, Ethan brought up the small locker sizes and mentioned that at times he had trouble squeezing all his belongings into them.
Santiago would like to see more machines, treadmills, squats, bench press machines
“It can get busy around six,” noted Santiago. “People are always competing for the equipment.”
Bear in mind, while phones are allowed in the Athletic Centre; picture taking is strictly forbidden. Also, students who use the equipment are responsible for cleaning it once they are done using the provided towels and cleaning solution.
