Toronto celebrates WE Day

BY ARINA AMINOVA

WE Day, the annual youth empowerment event, took place at Air Canada Centre downtown Toronto on Oct. 19.

Over 20,000 students gathered to celebrate making a difference in the local and global communities.

WE Day is an event organized by We Charity (formerly known as Free The Children), which first started in Toronto in 2007 and now is held in cities across Canada, the US and the UK.

The event is free of charge, however, students who would like to attend the annual WE Day have to earn their tickets by serving the community throughout the year.

A number of world-wide recognized speakers and performers, such as Jason Derulo, Zendaya, Lilly Singh, Margaret Trudeau, Gord Downie and many more flew to Toronto from all over to talk to students and inspire them to help others.

The co-founders of WE, Craig and Marc Kielburger, also attended this year’s event to deliver their speeches in front of thousands of young people.
