An assault took place at Sheridan’s Trafalgar Campus recently, in which a Sheridan student was verbally harassed by a group of three men, and struck in the arm.
According to an email sent to the college community,”the suspects are described as three Caucasian males wearing black hoodies and baseball caps.”
Halton Regional Police was immediately called and officers and Sheridan Security searched the property. No one matching the description was found. Security has increased patrols in the area and continues to monitor live video surveillance camera footage.
Some safety options on campus include:
- A 24-hour security program
- Request a SafeWalk from security and/or SSU (during the evening on weekdays)
- Download “Sheridan Alert!” mobile app – direct links to campus Security.
- Blue emergency phones around parking lots
“We have a 24-hour, seven days-a-week, SafeWalk program here,” said Chris Dowlatshahi, Sheridan Security’s site supervisor. “We have a phone number here that anyone can call and request a “SafeWalk.”
The SafeWalk program will help anyone get escorted to parking lots, classes, and anywhere within the boundaries of the college.
There are also blue emergency phones outside campus, in case you need do not have the option to make a phone call and/or contact security-and-police.
“Each parking lot has one of those blue phones that you can press, and [Security] will respond,” said Dowlatshahi. “There is a blue light at the top of the tower, with a button that contacts Security directly.”
