It’s the most wonderful time of the year . . . if you’re a retailer.
Black Friday is off to an early start this year, with sales having already begun online and in-store. Typically the deals wouldn’t start until after Thanksgiving for our friends south of the border, however the excitement for cheaper goods has reached a new high.
You’re probably stressing about having to buy a gift for all your friends and family members. The crowds, the deals and the parking lots are just overwhelming. Here are some tips and tricks to survive the madness that is Black Friday.
- Make a list (and check it twice)
Know exactly who you must buy for. If you have a long list of people you need to figure out who they are and prioritize them based on time and money. - Decide what you want to buy for each person on your list
Knowing what you want to get for each person not only reduces stress level it also makes the experience of shopping a lot less agonizing. - Make a budget and stick to it
The holidays are an expensive time for everyone. People go out to eat more and shop more in preparation for their celebrations. By having a firm budget, you can plan for your future purchases and make it to the new year with a little less to worry about. - Carpool
Get a friend or two and get in the biggest car you have access too. There will be more room for items and less stress with finding parking. If everyone who went looking for black Friday deals carpooled the parking situation would be a lot less stressful for bargain hunters. - Scout the deals
Every week you get the flyers delivered right to your door. Use your list to find the items you’re looking for at the lowest prices. Try to find a store that has a price match policy that will beat the advertised price by a percentage. - Don’t be afraid to shop online
The rush of buying and having right away is something many of us love, but the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals online are just as good, if not better than what’s offered in store. Save the hassle and stress of going into a crowded store and shop comfortably from your living room. The items may not get to you for a few days, but if you’re shopping now it will leave you with plenty of time to get everything wrapped and ready for the holidays.Greg Chisholm has worked in retail environments during the holiday season for over 10 years.
