This past week the world heard of a young man who was murdered travelling to an island off the Bay of Bengal in India to contact a very remote tribe, the Sentinelese. For the greater part of history, the Sentinelese remained a mystery to everyone, including those trying to study them vigorously.
The Sentinelese are known as the most remote tribe in the world. Most expeditions to Northern Sentinel Island attempting to make contact with them has resulted in aggressive behaviour, and even displays of lethal force.
Below is a timeline of all known contact made with the Sentinelese tribe.
